The counterpart
Every writer keeps a second self. Koda is Juan Maulana's—the one left holding the pen when the meetings end and the screens turn off. Juan answers emails on time, ships projects, and shakes hands. Koda stays up late, archiving the quiet moments and documenting the distances in between.
The work
A collection of observations, short fictions, and quiet thoughts. Stories about long distances, passing moments, and the spaces between conversations. Field journals filled with whatever the days leave behind, kept in a handwriting only one of them truly understands.
Currently
Organizing scattered thoughts into essays, drafting new stories, and quietly filling up another paper notebook before it joins the stack on the shelf. Always writing, rarely rushing.
Colophon
This site is the front of the house. Every cover, page and polaroid on it is drawn by code at the moment you arrive — nothing is a photograph. Set in Georgia and Helvetica. Built with Next.js, Three.js and GSAP.

The covers
Every cover, page and thumbnail is drawn at runtime on a canvas — orbits, bauhaus grids, blobs, fake typeset pages, handwritten journal lines. No image ever ships; the palette and pattern are derived from the piece itself, so the same work always looks the same way, and no two works ever look alike by accident.
The spiral
Every artifact is a real object in a 3D scene, not a card — a book, a curled sheet, a taped-together stack, shaped by what kind of writing it is. It only ever holds the most recent works; the rest live in the index, one search away, however large the shelf gets.
The sound
A generative score — soft chords and sparse piano, never the same twice — plays underneath a room: a quiet clock, a kettle that occurs to itself, and rain that isn't a recording. It's real weather, checked every twenty minutes at the desk this was written from.
The reading
Scroll far enough into a piece and it draws a signature — a small, one-of-a-kind image made from your own pace and pauses while reading. No two are alike, and none are saved anywhere but on your own screen.

Koda is a digital literary archive designed for deep immersion. Here are a few ways to get the most out of your experience:
- Navigating the Space: Use your mouse, trackpad, or arrow keys to scroll through the 3D spiral. You can also switch to List View using the top toggle for a more traditional index and search. The dot rail on the right edge marks where you are among the most recent works.
- Quick Jump: Press ⌘K (or Ctrl K) from anywhere in the spiral to search every work by title and jump straight to it.
- Bilingual Mode: Some works are available in multiple languages. Look for the language toggle switch inside the reader to seamlessly switch contexts.
- Reading Preferences & Auto-Bookmark: Inside the reader, you can customize the font size, margins, and color themes. Your reading progress is automatically saved, allowing you to return right where you left off.
- Share Quotes: Found a beautiful passage? You can generate elegant, aesthetic quote cards (both 1:1 Square and 9:16 Story formats) directly from the focus panel to share on your social feeds.
- Echoes: A stream of micro-thoughts, fragments, and updates from the author. You can find it by clicking "echoes" at the top.
- Audio Immersion (Spotify): This space is best experienced with music. Log in via the integrated Spotify widget at the bottom to listen to the curated atmospheric soundtrack in full (rather than a 30-second preview). The rain you hear underneath it is real — it tracks the actual weather at Koda's desk.
